Lily Bean Stuff

November 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in received

I’ve become addicted to getting “things” for Lily Bean. Granted, they’re all “needed” things (or so I like to believe), but I just can’t help myself. I’m in the need for a new diaper bag, as ours is getting a little too overstuffed, and I think I need a bigger one.. maybe something more efficient but doesn’t feel as bulky as the one we have now. I’ve been looking at some really cute Ju Ju Be diaper bags, and I can’t help myself. I think I will just have to buy one.

Another type of shopping I like to do is getting more cloth diapers. Now that I know which ones we’re going to stick with (I’ll have to write a post about it on her site), I really want more more more. Cloth diapers are more expensive in the beginning, but they save so much money in the long run. I really love that she is a cloth diaper baby. I’m glad we stuck it out and decided to go with it.

Today I went to get my SIN number for residency in Canada. I’m officially a legal resident of Canada (well, since a couple of days ago). I have everything now. It’s SO awesome to be able to do this! So exciting that the process is over and done with now. Woo! Now we can move on with the rest of our lives, in style, baby!

My MIL is taking us out for dinner to celebrate this awesome development. She knows how long and hard I’ve worked to get into Canada, so this is a big deal. Everything in Canada is bigger, brighter, better. Social services are better, healthcare is better, the schools are better, heck, even the politicians are better (well, for the most part, anyway). It’s nice here. I like it. I’m glad I’m raising my daughter in a land of the truly free.

Today is the Day

Today marks a very special day. Well, yesterday and today. Yesterday I was officially a “resident” (albeit temporary) of Canada. Today, I became a long-term, legal resident of Canada. I officially “landed” in Canada while going through the border today. It was a surreal experience… something I have dreamt of and worked towards for the last… 5 years or so. It feels like such a long road to get here, and I am so so so so glad it is all over with! Well, almost. Just to finish the final touches, like get my SIN card/number and that’ll be it.

Quiet Birthday

October 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in received

Yesterday’s birthday was exactly as I had planned: quiet, relaxing, awesome. Spent with the husband and family, and even got to see my mother-in-law Sylvia and our niece, Chelsea in the evening. Couldn’t have planned it better. I’ve never been much of a party person or a grand celebrator of holidays. Not even for my birthday. Quiet evenings are definitely the way to go. In the past, we used to go to a movie and maybe a dinner and then come home and snuggle. Not much has changed since then, even with a new baby. I’ve always been a homebody. And I do enjoy that about myself.

Next year, at this time, we’ll have a rambunctious 1-year-old running around. It will be an interesting birthday, I can only imagine!

Birthday Wishes

Today on my birthday, I have a lot to be grateful for this year. This is the first birthday I am spending as a mother. It’s my greatest present from the universe — ever. I am so grateful and so happy to have our little girl, it is unbelievable. Dave asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday — go out to dinner and a movie, or into town, or stay home. I told him, almost immediately, that I wanted to stay home and just spend time with him and the baby without having to worry about work, chores, or doing “things” around the house. I’d also like some of my favorite meals and maybe an afternoon nap. Afternoon naps are so under-rated. I think they should be required by law.

I can’t imagine spending my birthday away from Lily Bean. Sometimes I leave the house because I have to go to work, or run some quick errands. On my birthday, when I can do anything I want, I want to be exactly where I am — at home, close to her, enjoying her smiles and giggles and love. I want to be at home, with my adoring husband, who loves me and is still my best friend. Who has been there for me through thick and thin, through my crazy moments and my awesome moments. I want to be right here where I am, with people I love most and who love me most.

Can’t ask for a better birthday, really. I don’t need anything else in this world (besides the necessary food and shelter and sex stuff), not even alli pills or anything. This is exactly where I want to be.

Needs Vs. Wants

October 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in received

Simplicity is the name of the game. Every time I think I “need” something, like a quick shopping spree or a new coat or a new hat or a new pair of shoes, I remind myself that everything I need I already have. It is a matter of wanting what you need, not needing what you want. I don’t remember who said that, but it’s so true. If I had “needed” something before now and don’t have it yet, then I really don’t need it because otherwise I would have had to already have it. Heh. What a tongue twister. And it makes you think too.

We’re in short supply of money right now, so rather than stressing about it, I have come to the conclusion that I can re-assess what I “need” versus what I “want.” And the more I assess, the more I realize that everything I’ve ever needed is already within my grasp, and everything I already wanted I can touch and kiss and hold. In fact, two of them are still sleeping in their beds. Heh.

A New Blessing

Today, our growing extended family was blessed again with a new baby: Kennedy Alexis, otherwise known as the Peanut to Lily’s Bean. Hehe. Kennedy (Baby Peanut) is Lily Bean (Baby Bean)’s cousin. Both their fathers are brothers, Dave and Dan. Kennedy’s older brother, Jaeden, was our ring bearer at the wedding. We are so happy to have Kennedy born so close to Lily Bean. I have a feeling they’re going to be the best of friends/cousins — Double Trouble, as Kennedy’s mother (Kami, my sister-in-law) and I are already guessing.

It’s amazing to witness babies being born into beautiful, loving homes, where good lessons will be surely taught and love will be plentiful and unending. I was so overwhelmed when Jaeden was born a little over three years ago. I am equally happy that Kennedy is here, gracing this planet with us. We need more kids in loving homes these days.
